The community of Goviefe Kowu replaced an unreliable shed with a durable, multipurpose pavilion to meet their social, cultural, and economic needs. Previously, gatherings were held in a palm-leaf and bamboo structure that frequently required rebuilding and was vulnerable to weather, disrupting essential events and impacting the environment due to deforestation. To resolve this, the community unanimously decided to build a robust pavilion.

Led by skilled artisans and an organized project committee, the pavilion was constructed with concrete walls and a covered roof. It now serves as a reliable venue for traditional events, health outreach, skill training, and a market space, supporting economic activities, especially for local women. Additionally, the pavilion enhances social cohesion, provides a convenient site for monthly healthcare services, and mitigates the environmental impact of the former shed. With ongoing community engagement and revenue generation plans in place, the pavilion’s sustainability is secured, positively impacting around 800 residents in Goviefe Kowu.

Support Our Work

CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: engaging youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty. We recruit and train motivated volunteers to live and work in rural, under-resourced areas in their own countries. They collaborate with the community to design and implement small-scale projects that address their top priorities and, by doing so, gain the skills and experience that lay the foundation for personal and professional success.

CorpsAfrica trusts youth and communities to help each other.
