The Youth-Led Beekeeping Project in Qola Mulato, Southern Ethiopia, aims to tackle youth unemployment and low incomes. After community consultations, beekeeping was chosen due to favorable conditions and market potential.
Twelve unemployed youths will receive training in modern beekeeping, business management, and financial skills. They will set up beekeeping units with both modern and traditional hives, targeting local markets.
With a budget of 300,000 ETB, the community contributes 25% through cash and support, highlighting local commitment. By May 2026, the project seeks to boost participants’ incomes by 70%, enhance skills, and create a sustainable youth-managed enterprise. Sustainability will be achieved through profit reinvestment, sound management, and local support, offering a model for youth empowerment in the region.
