Project Overview

The Youth-Led Poultry Farming Project in Balla Wajito, Oromia, Ethiopia, addresses youth unemployment and economic dependency through poultry farming. Utilizing Human-Centered Design and Asset-Based Community Development, community members chose poultry farming for its low start-up costs and high market demand. The project will involve 23 youths (18 females and 5 males) who will manage a poultry enterprise with 300 improved egg-laying chicks. Over 12 weeks, participants will receive training in poultry management and business skills, supported by a budget of 408,000 ETB, half from community contributions. Expected outcomes include a 50% income increase for youths within six months and the establishment of a sustainable youth-led cooperative. The initiative aims to create a replicable model for youth economic empowerment.
