The Youth-Led Liquid Soap Making Project in Dobee Kebele, Aleta Wondo Woreda, South Sidama Region, led by Volunteer Zemenay Kifile, addresses youth unemployment and limited income sources. Using Human-Centered Design and Asset-Based Community Development methods, the community chose liquid soap production for its steady demand, low start-up needs, and growth potential.
15 unemployed youth will receive training in soap production, safety, entrepreneurship, and financial skills. The project will create a youth-managed group with necessary resources, partly provided by the community.
The project, with a budget of 292,587 ETB about 2,315 USD will be implemented over several months. It aims to provide stable income, produce 200 liters of soap monthly by month six, and offer affordable hygiene products to 50 households and businesses.
By promoting governance, financial management, profit reinvestment, and mentorship, the project seeks to establish a sustainable, community-owned enterprise as a model for youth empowerment in Dobee Kebele.
