From Training to Transformation: My Journey as a CorpsAfrica Volunteer

After five weeks of intensive and insightful training, I proudly took the oath as a CorpsAfrica Volunteer, marking the beginning of an inspiring journey of service, learning, and community-driven change. That moment was not just a formality, it was a promise to dedicate myself to empowering communities through collaboration and innovation.

I have been deployed in Rumphi District, where I will serve for ten months as a facilitator of community-led development. My work focuses on engaging local residents to identify and address their own challenges using participatory approaches such as Community-Led Development (CLD), Human-Centered Design (HCD), and Asset-Based Community-Led Development (ABCLD).

In this role, I am not coming as an expert with ready-made answers, but as a partner, listener, and learner; someone who believes that lasting solutions begin with the people most affected. My goal is to strengthen community capacities, build confidence, and inspire ownership of development initiatives.

Beyond facilitation, I will also work closely with the youth, supporting them to design and implement economic empowerment activities that can enhance livelihoods and create opportunities for self-employment. I believe that when young people are empowered, communities grow stronger, more resilient, and more innovative.

Each day brings new lessons and challenges, but also immense joy and fulfillment. It is inspiring to see how collective action and shared vision can spark transformation. I look forward to walking this path with the community towards nurturing ideas, supporting dreams, and witnessing growth from within.

For me, this journey is more than volunteering. It is about being a catalyst of change, a bridge between ideas and action, and a voice that amplifies community potential. Together with the people of Rumphi district, I am excited to shape stories of hope, resilience, and sustainable development.

Support Our Work

CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: engaging youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty. We recruit and train motivated volunteers to live and work in rural, under-resourced areas in their own countries. They collaborate with the community to design and implement small-scale projects that address their top priorities and, by doing so, gain the skills and experience that lay the foundation for personal and professional success.

CorpsAfrica trusts youth and communities to help each other.
