Project Overview

The Youth and Women-Led Liquid Soap Production Project in Layignaw Humbo, Ethiopia, spearheaded by Volunteer Soliyana Gessesse, is designed to offer income opportunities for youth and women while addressing the scarcity of local hygiene products. It was developed through community consultations using Human-Centered Design (HCD) and Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approaches. The community selected liquid soap production due to its demand and low entry barriers.

The project engages 10 direct beneficiaries, with at least 60% being women, who will utilize a community-contributed soap production facility. Participants will receive training in soap production, quality assurance, business management, and record-keeping within three months. Once training is completed, production will begin immediately, aiming to supply local markets and sell 70% of the output.

The project spans eight weeks, covering mobilization, procurement, training, facility renovation, and monitoring. It operates on a total budget of 219,007 ETB, with 25% provided by the community, demonstrating strong local commitment.

Expected outcomes include increased income, improved skills, better access to hygiene products, and a sustainable management system to ensure ongoing success and empowerment for youth and women in the region.
