The Youth-Led Beekeeping Project in Waro Kolobo, Dedo Woreda, aims to combat high youth unemployment and low household incomes through beekeeping. Using Human-Centered Design (HCD) and Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) methods, the community chose beekeeping for its low start-up costs and market potential. The project will involve 8 beneficiaries (5 women and 3 men) who will receive practical training in beekeeping and start honey production with 25 modern hives within 8 weeks. With a budget of 344,382 ETB, 35% of which is community-contributed, the initiative expects to improve youth employment, increase household income, and empower women economically while establishing a sustainable management structure. Regular monitoring and support will help create a replicable model for economic empowerment in the region.
